Mission Statement

The mission of Soil Machine Dynamics Laboratory (SMDL) is to support (1) research programs for off-road equipment design, performance analysis and simulation modelling related to mobility systems, including tire, track and tractive devices, Ground Engaging Tools (GETs), and GETs wear research and testing services of soil mechanics, tire/track penetrated soil contact area, (2) teaching programs for undergraduate and graduates education with a focus on advanced machinery systems, and (3) engineering outreach programs of soil-machine systems on tillage, soil compaction and traction.  With the SMDL research capabilities, the lab support engineering research programs for agriculture, construction, mining and extraterrestrial machine applications and fundamental applied soil dynamics research with various granular materials. The SMDL consists of three state-of-the-art equipment single-tire Mobility soil bin, GETs soil bin, and circular wear testing bin.
